A Thank You To Supporters... widnesvikings.co.uk

9th September 2019

Widnes Vikings would like to send a message of thanks to the club’s supporters for your unrivalled support during the 2019 season...

This year has been the most testing in a number of seasons, both on and off the field. Despite that, you have stood by the club in the darkest of times and, as a club, we have been heartened to see the lengths that you have gone to as a fanbase to ensure the future of our club.

In terms of supporters, there isn’t another group of fans this year that have been through what you have, and then prospered in the sight of adversity. When all looked lost, you proved to everyone that the impossible was in fact possible.

We stand here today as a club because of you, and the ‘never say die’ attitude displayed during the week of administration. It’s that attitude that saw us move away from relegation despite a 12-point deduction in March, that saw us walk out at Wembley just six months later, and one we must take as we move into a new era in 2020.

Along with your general fundraising, which has been unbelievable, your memberships to Vikings Quids In (VIQI) and WISSL will prove invaluable for the club moving forward. We have already seen in recent days the impact that they can have in retaining key players such as Jack Owens, and we thank you for that.

We hope you feel pride in the fact your monthly subscription is helping your club, and hope that those contributions will continue to make an impact on improving Widnes Vikings.

With the 2019 season now finished, it is time for the club to draw a line under it all and move forward.

The off-season will come with a lot of changes, in terms of playing personnel, and that comes with it’s own challenges.

We know you’re waiting in anticipation for signings and retentions, and for confirmation on those leaving Widnes Vikings. Rest assured, we are working hard behind the scenes to bring you a first team squad capable of competing in 2020.

With the club being handed our salary cap for next season just over a week ago, we are now working hard on retention and recruitment. It is a challenge, but as we have all demonstrated throughout this season, this club knows how to fight their way through challenges, and we will do the same during the off-season.

Whilst it is important that we work quickly, the club feels it is imperative that we have players that can come in and have a good impact and contribute positively to the first team squad at Widnes Vikings.

With the season now finished, we have to look ahead, and season tickets for the 2020 season will be on sale shortly.

If we can all work together, retain the current levels of support we have seen this year and possibly more, it will place the club in a healthy position ahead of the new season.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the players, and the coaching and administrative staff, we would like to thank you for your support this year, and look forward to seeing you all back at the Halton Stadium in 2020.
