Widnes Vikings will be aiming to take another step towards Wembley on Wednesday night, as they take on Dewsbury Rams at the Halton Stadium in the quarter-final of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup (8pm kick-off).

The Vikings head into this fixture on the back of four straight victories at home, having defeated Batley Bulldogs on Friday evening.

Ahead of Wednesday’s quarter-final tie at home to the Rams, we have compiled all the team news, stats and key information with our in-depth preview below…

Squad news

Kieron Purtill has made three changes to the squad he originally named ahead of Friday’s fixture with Batley, as Jack Owens, Danny Craven and Jordan Johnstone all return in place of Sam Freeman, Jacob Dugdale and Liam Walsh.

Joe Edge also misses out having been named in the team as a late replacement for Freeman following an illness, while Hep Cahill, Olly Ashall-Bott, Owen Buckley and Ryan Ince continue their recovery from injury.

Widnes Vikings 19-man squad: Keanan Brand, Jay Chapelhow, Ted Chapelhow, Danny Craven, Chris Dean, Owen Farnworth, Josh Ganson, Anthony Gelling, Tom Gilmore, Harrison Hansen, Jayden Hatton, Jordan Johnstone, MacGraff Leuluai, Joe Lyons, Dan Norman, Jack Owens, Lloyd Roby, Brad Walker, Sam Wilde.

Lee Greenwood has made eight changes to his squad ahead of the quarter-final clash, as Simon Brown, Lewis Heckford, Ben Kilner, Daniel King, Martyn Reilly, Jacob Thomas, Daniel Waite-Pullman and Harvey Whiteley all come in.

A noticeable absentee for the Rams is influential halfback Paul Sykes, with both Owen and Kyle Trout also missing out.

Dewsbury Rams 19-man squad: Simon Brown, Liam Finn, Andrew Gabriel, Lewis Heckford, Luke Hooley, Daniel Igbinedion, Ben Kilner, Daniel King, Frazer Morris, Martyn Reilly, Toby Richardson, Adam Ryder, Jode Sheriffe, Jacob Thomas, Daniel Waite-Pullan, Lucas Walshaw, Robbie Ward, Harvey Whiteley, Rob Worrincy.

Form Guide

The Vikings bounced back from their defeat away to Featherstone Rovers on Friday night, as they made it four home wins in a row with a 28-22 victory over Batley Bulldogs.

Jacob Dugdale and Joe Edge became the latest academy graduates to make the step up to the first team, with both players impressing on their debuts. Edge started on the wing and kicked four goals, while Dugdale came on at hooker and more than held his own in the middle of the field.

First half scores from Anthony Gelling and Dan Norman saw the home side go into the break trailing by two points, before the two points were secured by tries from Chris Dean, Jayden Hatton and Jay Chapelhow.

Batley threatened a late comeback, as Niall Walker grabbed his second try of the game late on, however the hosts held on and picked up a vital win.

Dewsbury face a shorter turnaround having welcomed Leigh Centurions to the Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon, falling to a 40-0 defeat in front of their home supporters.

Liam Forsyth, Luke Douglas and Stefan Marsh helped themselves to a brace of tries each, with Mitch Cox also on the scoresheet for the Centurions.

The Rams will be aiming for a response on Wednesday when they visit the Halton Stadium, a venue they have already picked up a win at this season.

Last Time Out

In Round 12 of the Betfred Championship season, Dewsbury pulled off a shock victory over Widnes Vikings as former player Liam Finn came back to haunt the hosts.

The Rams halfback scored the final try of the contest to bring the scores level at 24-24, before kicking the winning drop-goal moments before the full-time hooter.

Jack Owens scored a first-half hat-trick in the defeat, with Danny Craven also crossing, while Luke Hooley, Daniel Igbinedion and Andrew Gabriel (2) joined Finn on the scoresheet for Dewsbury.

One to Watch

Adam Ryder – A strong running centre who is equally as effective in the back row. The Rams number four caused problems for the Vikings in their previous meeting this season, and will be looking to lead his side to victory once again.
