London Broncos U19s produced a second-half comeback to record a convincing win over Widnes Vikings U19s at the Halton Stadium.

It was the home side who started the quicker, and scored inside the opening two minutes as Olly Brookes touched down. Lewis Else went to the air on the last tackle, and Brookes was on hand to get a touch to the ball to give the Vikings the opening score. Lewis Else converted the try.

Brookes thought he was over for a quick-fire double five minutes later, combining with Else to go over on the left edge, but Else’s pass was ruled forward to wipe out the try.

London capitalised on this, and got themselves level as Charlie Gamble crossed. The visitors moved the ball left, and Horsman hit Gamble with an inside ball to go over. Robert Oakley converted the try.

Three minutes after this, and London put themselves in front as Rory Grab finished a move to cross under the sticks after work before him broke the Widnes line. Oakley again converted the try.

Those London scores burst Widnes into life, and took control of the first half for the remaining 25 minutes. It took just six minutes to get themselves back on level pegging, and it was Tony Fenlon who produced a bit of magic to touch down. The half back chipped and chased on the last tackle to collect the bouncing ball and go over. Lewis Else converted.

Jordan Brown was next on the scoresheet, as another Lewis Else kick caused trouble for London, and the back-rower was there to touch down. Lewis Else was wayward with his conversion attempt.

The final try of the half for the Vikings was another nicely worked score as Tony Fenlon and Jake Burns combined to send Burns over under the sticks. With Else’s conversion, the young Vikings held a 10-point lead at the break.

A strong start to the second half for the away side, with three tries inside the opening 10 minutes, gave them control of the game.

After three minutes, Jamie Humphreys darted out from dummy half to get over from close range.

It became back-to-back scores for the Broncos as Charlie Gamble supported a break from Max Clarke to go over under the sticks.

Gamble was then on hand again to go over on the 50 minute mark to grab his hat-trick, and with Rian Horsman converting all three scores, the away side held an eight point lead.

Following this, the Vikings had some territory and pressure down in London’s 20 metres, with Jordan Brown going close, but they couldn’t break the Broncos’ line to reduce the deficit in the score line.

After surviving the Vikings pressure, the Broncos again regained control and put the result to bed. Joel Fosuhene-Gray was given a walk in at the corner after good work on his inside to put him into space to score.

Charlie Gamble broke down the Broncos left edge four minutes later, and fed Jamie Humphreys to grab his second try under the sticks. Rian Horsman converted the try.

Fosuhene-Gray then scored a length-of-the-field effort from a tap restart on his 20 metre line to grab his own brace with 10 minutes to go. Robert Oakley converted the try.

The final score of the afternoon came from Oliver Leyland, as he was able to step at the line and break down-field. The half back beat two defenders to race 60 metres and score under the sticks. With Horsman converting the try, the Broncos recorded a win over the Vikings with a 7-try display in the second half.
