Widnes Vikings return to Betfred Championship action on Sunday afternoon, as they welcome Barrow Raiders to the Halton Stadium (3pm kick-off).

It will be the Vikings’ third game in just nine days, having defeated Sheffield Eagles in a re-arranged fixture and Featherstone Rovers in the 1895 Cup.

Squad news

Kieron Purtill has made three changes to his squad from Wednesday’s win over Featherstone, as Anthony Gelling returns from injury.

Lloyd Roby and Owen Farnworth also come in, with Harrison Hansen, Ryan Ince and Owen Buckley making way, while Olly Ashall-Bott remains side lined.

Form Guide

The Vikings booked their place in the last eight of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup with a 22-16 victory over a much-changed Featherstone Rovers line-up, setting up a quarter final tie at home to Dewsbury Rams.

Jayden Hatton scored his first hat-trick for the club’s First Team, as the Widnes academy graduate produced a Man of the Match performance, with Joe Lyons also on the score sheet.

Featherstone threatened a second half comeback but came up short as the Vikings advanced to within two victories of a trip to Wembley.

Barrow Raiders also progressed in the competition against a youthful Bradford Bulls, with a second half rout securing a 50-6 victory and setting up a meeting with Leigh Centurions in the next round.

An Alec Susino try saw the Raiders trail 6-4 at the break, before running in 46 unanswered points courtesy of Jono Smith, Brett Carter, Jarrod Stack, Dan Toal, Jake Spedding, Deon Cross and Jamie Dallimore.

Last Time Out

Back in March these two sides met at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium in Round 6 of the Betfred Championship season, with the Vikings producing a battling performance in tough conditions to pick up a 20-4 victory.

The only points of the first half came from the boot of Jamie Dallimore, who sent Barrow into the break with a 4-0 lead following a pair of penalties.

In the second half, Danny Craven scored the first try of the contest to get the ball rolling for Widnes, with Brad Walker, Ryan Ince and Hep Cahill following him over the try line to secure the two points.

One to Watch

Jamie Dallimore – The Barrow halfback will try to dictate the game through his accomplished kicking game and will be a threat whenever the Raiders venture into the Vikings half.
