A statement from Widnes Vikings updating the club’s supporters…

“There is no doubting that it has been a turbulent few weeks for everyone involved with Widnes Vikings.

“From administration being confirmed, to the fundraising efforts that followed, to the 11th hour takeover from ourselves and the arranging of a home game two days later, it has been completely manic.

“Without the support of you, our supporters, none of this would have been possible, and we are eternally grateful for your backing.

“Our journey back from administration has unfortunately come at some costs, including the departures of some great people both on and off the field. With rumours circling in the last day or so about further changes to the club and squad, we felt it was important to keep our supporters fully updated.

“Therefore, given the level of support from the club’s supporters, as well as the investment from the consortium now involved with the club including VIQI, we can confirm that there are no more planned departures from the club regarding the first team squad.

“The squad we currently have now, along with the likes of new arrivals Dom Speakman and Luis Johnson, will see this club through until the end of the 2019 season. The aim of this board is to not diminish the squad any further, but to help bolster and support it in any way we can.

“On top of this, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank each and every Vikings supporter that made the trip to Barrow on Sunday afternoon. It was a cold, wet and windy afternoon, but you turned up in your numbers and helped see us to victory. Your support is invaluable, and we can’t move forward as a club without you alongside us every step of the way.

“We have a huge game coming up against Bradford Bulls at home on Sunday. We had almost 6,000 supporters inside the Halton Stadium against Featherstone, and it would be brilliant to see us replicate, if not better, that figure.

“We are by no means out of the woods, but everyone involved with Widnes Vikings are working hard to ensure we achieve our goals come the season end. We hope you want to join us on that journey back.”
