Widnes Vikings are delighted to confirm that Harrison Hansen has committed his future to the club for the 2019 season.

The hard-hitting forward, who has played almost 400 career games, has put pen-to-paper on a deal that keeps him at the Halton Stadium for next year, as the club look to gain promotion from the Betfred Championship.

Hansen started his career at Wigan Warriors, where he amassed almost 250 appearances over the course of nine years. At the Warriors, Hansen helped them to winning the Grand Final in 2010, the Challenge Cup in 2011, and a Super League and Challenge Cup double in 2013.

In 2014, Harrison signed for Salford Red Devils. He went on to play more than fifty games in two seasons for the side, scoring nine tries. Harrison then joined Leigh Centurions in 2016, leading the side as their captain. At the Centurions, Harrison’s power, experience and leadership shone, as he was named both the Players’ Players and Coaches’ Player of the Year.

Hansen joined the Vikings prior to the club’s 2018 Super 8s campaign, and instantly became a favourite with supporters for his hard work and tenacity in the Vikings’ pack. Hansen will add experience and quality to a squad that is looking to bounce back to Super League for 2020.

Harrison Hansen, says: “I’m happy to be here and take on the challenge of next year.

“When I sat down with James Rule to discuss next year, and listened to what he had to say about the club and what we’re trying to do, it sounded like something I wanted to be a part of.

“With Hep, and now myself, leading the way from the front next year, it gives us a big chance to rebuild the club, with the goal being to get promoted at the first attempt. Looking at the bigger picture and what we’re trying to do, I thought that it was a good opportunity for me to be part of the team that got Widnes back into Super League.

“Obviously we have re-signed a lot of the talented young lads already, and you need them, but you can’t get by with just those in your squad. You need to find a good balance within the side in terms of experience. I know what it takes to be successful in the Championship, and I hope I can pass that on to some of them for next year.

“It’s good to see that we have the likes of Hep, MacGraff and Wellington signed up for next year, as we start to form a strong pack for this division. We know we have to match teams down the middle, and it’s going to be a tough league, but there’s no reason why we can’t go well and show people what we’re about in 2019.”

James Rule, CEO at Widnes Vikings, says: “Harrison is a proven leader, who earns the respect of teammates and supporters wherever he goes.

“In his short spell with the club, his positive impact has been evident for all to see. I’m delighted that Harrison has committed to be a part of our plan to return to Super League.

“His contribution on the field is massive for us, as is his leadership, which will be invaluable as we seek to build a squad capable of promotion in 2019.”

Harrison is proudly sponsored by The Backhouse Group.
