Liam Walsh Commits To Vikings

1st October 2018

Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that Liam Walsh has become the latest player to commit his future to the club, agreeing to a three-year deal with the Vikings.

The Academy graduate has been with the club since the age of 14, working his way through the scholarship programme and playing a huge role for the U19s over the last few years.

In 2017, the 19-year-old made his Super League debut, impressing off-the-bench against Leeds Rhinos in an Easter Monday fixture at Headingley. Walsh also made an appearance in the Challenge Cup tie away to Warrington Wolves in 2017, again giving a solid display at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Walsh also carries international honours at every stage of the England youth pathway, which includes a tour of Australia back in 2016.

Liam proudly played his local community rugby at Halton Farnworth Hornets, and studied at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic College.

Liam Walsh commented: “I’m really happy to get this sorted ahead of next season,”

“I’ve been at the club for a number of years now, and I love it here. I’m a local lad and I know what it means to play for Widnes, so I can’t wait for next year and getting stuck into pre-season.

“I now need to get my head down, work as hard as I can and try to force my way into the team on a weekly basis.”

Phil Finney, Head of Youth at Widnes Vikings, added: “Liam Walsh is another player that has progressed to the first team through the Academy programme. He is a local lad who has always been fully committed and loyal to the club. His decision to once again remain at the Vikings reinforces his loyalty, and also his character.

“Liam is a very explosive and aggressive player who will benefit from a full pre-season after having a number of injuries over the past couple of seasons. He is exciting to watch and we hope will fulfil his potential in the near future with Widnes.”

Liam is proudly sponsored by Widnes Dry Cleaners.
