The Golden Generation had a reason to celebrate last Friday, as they marked four years since the reminiscence group was launched by Widnes Vikings.

Since its inception the Club have welcomed supporters aged 55 and over to the Halton Stadium every Friday, where they share their favourite memories of the Vikings.

The event takes place between 2:30pm and 4pm and is delivered in partnership with Halton CCG, growing from a small group to between 20 and 30 members over the years.

As part of their celebrations, members of the Golden Generation enjoyed cake and refreshments while they discussed all things rugby league.

Vikings staff and players are regular visitors to the group, sharing stories and taking part in question and answer sessions with the participants.

Education officer, Charlotte Jakeman, helps lead the sessions and said: “It’s great to see the Golden Generation still going strong after four years.

“We have a brilliant group of supporters who are committed to the group every week, and have become friends for life due to this fantastic initiative.

“We’re hoping that the Golden Generation can continue to grow, as newcomers are always welcome, and that participants enjoy the next four years as much as the last.”
