Squad news

Francis Cummins has made two changes to the 19-man squad he named ahead of last week’s home game against London Broncos. Charlie Gubb is ruled out through injury, replaced by Alex Gerrard, whilst Lloyd White makes a return to the squad in place of Danny Walker.

Stefan Marsh, Hep Cahill, Rhys Hanbury, Ryan Ince and Jordan Johnstone are still ruled out for the Vikings through injury, with the rest of the first team squad available at Francis Cummins' disposal.

Widnes Vikings 19-man squad: Patrick Ah Van, Olly Ashall-Bott, Jay Chapelhow, Danny Craven, Chris Dean, Gil Dudson, Liam Finn, Alex Gerrard, Harrison Hansen, Weller Hauraki, Aaron Heremaia, Chris Houston, Krisnan Inu, MacGraff Leuluai, Joe Mellor, Tom Olbison, Charly Runciman, Lloyd White, Matt Whitley.

Ian Watson makes one change to the Salford side that beat Hull Kingston Rovers last weekend. Ex-Viking Greg Burke returns to the squad, in place of Tyrone McCarthy.

Salford Red Devils 19-man squad: Kris Welham, Junior Sa’u, Niall Evalds, Robert Lui, Craig Kopczak, Josh Jones, Mark Flanagan, Lama Tasi, Ryan Lannon, Ben Nakubuwai, Josh Wood, Derrell Olpherts, Lee Mossop, Jake Bibby, Daniel Murray, Ed Chamberlain, Greg Burke, Jackson Hastings, Joey Lussick.

Form

Saturday’s game pits together two sides looking to retain their Super League status for 2019, but had opposing starts to their Qualifiers campaign.

Before facing Leeds Rhinos in Round 23, Ian Watson’s side had been on a four game losing streak. However, the new arrivals for Salford before the deadline helped them to victory over the current Champions, Leeds on home soil, which was followed by a very impressive 28-10 win against Hull KR at the KCOM Craven Park. The Red Devils were victorious the last time the Vikings visited the AJ Bell Stadium in June, and will be looking to repeat that on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings were left frustrated last weekend, throwing away a 14-4 lead to then lose out 21-20 to London Broncos through a late Jarrod Sammut drop goal. Francis Cummins’ side head into this fixture looking for their first win of The Qualifiers, and will be using their earlier season win against the Red Devils as motivation for success.
