Ashall-Bott wanting to stay positive

10th August 2018

Widnes Vikings fullback Olly Ashall-Bott believes that the Club needs to remain positive and united, as the first team’s focus switches to the clash against Salford Red Devils next weekend.

Ashall-Bott made three clean breaks, ran for over 150 metres and crossed for the opening try in the game against London Broncos on Thursday night.

Despite a superb individual display, the Vikings Academy product says that he would exchange all of that to have that first win in the Qualifiers.

“It’s always nice to get a try, and personally I thought that I went okay in the game, but I would have swapped that for the two points last night,” he said.

“I thought that we played well in spells again against London. We should have seen the game out when we went 14-4 up, so we need to turn in an 80 minute performance in these games if we are to get that win on the board.”

The Vikings were edged out in the last minute through Jarrod Sammut’s drop-goal, and Ashall-Bott says the squad are hurting after the defeat, but determined to put that right next week.

“The dressing room was a frustrated one, as we feel like our own worst enemy," he said.

“We have to stay united and focus on putting this right. We know that we need to stick together and stay positive as we move forward into the rest of the Qualifiers.

“We need to put the work in on the training field over the coming days. We know that performances need to improve, and that starts with Salford next weekend.”

Ashall-Bott also hopes the loyal Vikings supporters can continue to give their full support as we travel to the AJ Bell Stadium next weekend.

“The fans are frustrated, and we understand that, but so are we. It’s hard to explain how much of a lift the supporters can give you in the tough times," he said.

“I’m from Widnes and I know what this club means to the supporters; it means the exact same to me.”

“Hopefully the supporters can keep getting behind us in their numbers and we can repay that faith with a successful campaign.”
