Widnes Vikings are delighted to host a special ‘Emerging Schools 9s Festival’ at the Halton Stadium today.

Five schools will come together on the i-Pitch today take part in a fun and friendly Sky Try 9s Festival. The event aims to celebrate and encourage children in schools that have embraced rugby league after being part of the Sky Try programme that the Vikings Sport Foundation deliver in their schools every week.

Pupuls from St Edwards College (Liverpool), Bluecoat School (Liverpool), Ormiston Chadwick Academy (Widnes), The Grange (Runcorn) and Rainhill High School (St Helens), will be taking part in the special event. It will give them the opportunity to showcase the rugby league skills that they have developed this year.

Sean Mellor, Community Rugby League Co-Ordinator at the Vikings, says: “I’m really looking forward to welcoming all of these schools to our festival.

“These schools really embraced the opportunity to grow their participation in rugby league. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn during our Sky Try sessions has been a pleasure to witness, and will make a long-term difference to our sport in the region. We hope to have a fantastic day, and a lot of great rugby played, I can’t wait!”
