Widnes Vikings forward Gil Dudson has signed a three-year extension, committing to the club until the end of the 2021 season.

Since joining the Vikings from Wigan Warriors three years ago, Gil has established himself as one of the most consistent and valuable players in the Vikings pack, making 83 appearances.

The uncompromising forward, 27, is a seasoned leader in the Vikings camp. He has Grand Final, Challenge Cup final and World Club Challenge experience with Wigan Warriors before joining Denis Betts’ ranks in 2015.

Gil also has considerable international experience with his native Wales, featuring in the 2011 Four Nations and the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Gil Dudson says: “I’m delighted to sign this new deal and I can’t wait to be a part of the Vikings for the coming three years.

“I’m into my fourth season now, and I love what the club is all about and where we are heading. I have enjoyed every minute since I joined Widnes Vikings, and I have been pleased to play some good rugby in my time here.

“The aim for me now is to kick on, after a frustrating 2018 so far with injuries. I am looking forward to getting back on the field with the boys very soon and helping the team to climb up the table.”

Denis Betts, Head Coach of Widnes Vikings, says: “We are delighted that Gil has committed to Widnes Vikings for the coming years.

“Whilst we have some quality young players coming through, it’s important that we also retain our senior leaders too. Gil is one of the cornerstones of our pack, so it is very pleasing to receive this long-term commitment from him.

“He has been one of the strongest and most consistent players in our squad since he arrived, particularly last season when he was in outstanding form.

“Unfortunately, Gil missed the start of this season due to surgery and has been out recently with injury. As a team, we have sorely missed his presence during games this year. We are excited that we will have him back and performing at his best soon.

“With Gil naturally gathering interest elsewhere, this is a great move for us as a club to secure his services for the next few years.”
