Widnes Vikings take on Leeds Rhinos in the sixth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup on Friday night at the Halton Stadium.

The Vikings have an impressive unbeaten home record against the Leeds Rhinos, stretching back to 2015. Here’s a recap of the most memorable moments from our recent clashes against Brian McDermott’s side….

Widnes Vikings 23-6 Leeds Rhinos - Sunday February 25, 2018

Widnes produced an incredible second-half performance to blitz reigning Super League champions Leeds and secure their second home win of 2018.

The Rhinos came into the clash having played against the Melbourne Storm nine days before in the World Club Challenge and were totally out-enthused by the hosts.

Joe Mellor took advantage of a fantastic Wellington Albert offload to open the scoring, before former Warrington hooker Brad Dwyer responded to give the Rhinos a 6-4 lead at half-time.

Nevertheless, the Vikings dominated the Yorkshire side in the second-half thanks to Krisnan Inu’s brace and a further score by Danny Walker, before Danny Craven added a late drop goal to complete a fantastic performance.

Widnes Vikings 28-20 Leeds Rhinos - Monday May 29, 2017

The Vikings overcame the high-flying Rhinos back in May 2017 to hand Brian McDermott’s side a second defeat in two matches.

Both Ryan Ince and Corey Thompson bagged a brace as Denis Betts’ side outscored their opponents by six tries to four and secured their third league win from 15 attempts in 2017.

Leeds had been in front for most of the opening 60 minutes thanks to tries from Ash Handley, Kallum Watkins, Stevie Ward and Adam Cuthbertson, but scores from Rhys Hanbury and Aaron Heremaia kept the home side in touch, before Ince and Thompson’s late doubles ensured victory.

Widnes Vikings 56-12 Leeds Rhinos - Sunday February 16, 2016

Widnes produced a stellar performance in their ten-try demolition of Leeds Rhinos to secure back-to-back wins to start the 2016 season.

The Vikings led 28-6 at the break through tries from Stef Marsh, Setimata Sa, Corey Thompson, Lloyd White and Charly Runciman, with Leeds losing Carl Ablett, Ash Golding and Tom Briscoe to injury in the opening 40.

Australian winger Thompson completed his treble in the second half, with further scores from Marsh, Joe Mellor and Connor Farrell ensuring that Leeds lost their opening two games of the season for the first time in 16 years.

Widnes Vikings 38-24 Leeds Rhinos - Sunday May 10, 2015

Widnes secured their first win against the Rhinos since 2003 with a seven-try victory at the Halton Stadium.

A win for the visitors would’ve seen then go four points ahead of second-placed Wigan in the table, but they found themselves behind thanks to scores from Rhinos loanee Chris Clarkson, Stef Marsh and Joe Mellor.

Despite being 28-14 behind, Leeds rallied and reduced the deficit to four points thanks to tries from Kallum Watkins and Jimmy Keinhorst.

Nevertheless, Widnes halted their opponents’ resurgence and secured the two points thanks to late scores from Chris Dean and Aaron Heremaia.
