Keinhorst excited for potential debut

Widnes Vikings’ loan signing, Jimmy Keinhorst, is looking forward to potentially making his debut on home soil when the Vikings face Wigan Warriors on Friday night.

Keinhorst, on a four-week loan from parent club Leeds Rhinos, officially joined up with the Vikings last week and has been involved with the squad since.

The centre says that he has been welcomed into the squad and that he is ready to get stuck into this week ahead of his potential debut.

“I’ve settled in really well,” he said.

“I’ve been here for over a week now and I’ve fitted in nicely. The lads and the coaching staff here have been really welcoming towards me.

“I’ve got a few sessions under my belt now and I’m ready to crack into this week.”

Keinhorst arrives at the Vikings with some top level experience in his locker, with Grand Final, Challenge Cup Final and World Club Challenge appearances with the Rhinos. Jimmy says that he wants to impress everyone with his performances on the field.

“I’ll probably be playing at right centre here and I want to work hard for the lads and do the little things well,” he said.

“I pride myself on doing the basics right and having a solid defensive game, and then build my attack on the back of that. I want to come and earn the respect of the boys and help them towards some points.”

Jimmy was not able to play in the Vikings’ 90-0 victory over Coventry Bears in the Challenge Cup, but says the lads head into this week’s game against Shaun Wane’s side with some momentum and confidence on the back of that result.

“I came and watched the game and the lads looked really good,” he said.

“I think they did the basics well and that showed by putting the nil on them and bringing up a big score like that. The lads did really well and we can definitely take some confidence from that into this week.”

Keinhorst is in line to make his Vikings debut against the high flying Warriors this weekend, and believes Denis Betts’ side need to be firing on all cylinders to ensure they are on the right end of the scoreline.

“I think we have to be on the top of our game,”

“Wigan are a class team so they will be coming here looking for the win. So we have to be at our best to combat that and hopefully turn that round by putting it on them.

Jimmy has also expressed his excitement at making his debut in front of his new supporters, and hopes they can come out in force to get behind the boys.

“I’m really excited,” he said.

“I’ve played here a few times and I know the fans get behind the team, so I’m looking forward to that and hopefully we can have a big crowd on Friday night.”
