A highly entertaining game, played in constant rain, saw 11 tries and a derby day victory for the young Vikings at Victoria Park.

An early penalty to Widnes put them on the offensive and after Liam Walsh had been held up over the line, the ball was moved left and Owen Buckley strolled in at the corner to score. Sam Freeman landed a magnificent conversion to give Widnes a six point lead.

It didn't take long for the Wolves to level matters, though, as Jordan Olmez barged over from close range. Joe Edge converted the try.

Warrington then edged in front when winger Lewis Hall touched down, however they were not to lead for long.

Good play from the away side saw them move into the opposition half, and when play was spread to the right wing, Sam Freeman finished spectacularly. Freeman added the extras to his try by landing another touchline conversion and Widnes led 10-12.

Grant Gore's side continued to attack the Warrington line and were rewarded when Jayden Hatton burst through the defence and scored under the posts to make the six points a formality.

Cole Oakley made it 14-18 as the Wolves refused to lie down, but right on the break, Sam Walters powered over from 10 metres and Widnes had an eight point advantage at half time.

That lead was soon whittled away as strong running Tayler Brown scored, and with Edge converting, it was suddenly a two point game.

Warrington were spurred on by this, but Widnes rallied well and when they got into attacking territory, they came away with another six points as Hatton got his second, which Freeman converted.

With ten minutes left, Liam Walsh used his strength to twist over the line and another Freeman goal made it 20-34 to surely seal the game.

There was still time for a final try and Wolves winger Henry Collins raced in from 25 metres. Edge completed the scoring with his third conversion but it was Widnes who ended victorious in a derby day cracker.
