Johnstone Impresses In Capital

7th March 2018

Jordan Johnstone has been praised by London Broncos Head Coach, Danny Ward, following his successful loan spell in the capital.

The dynamic young hooker returned to the Vikings this weekend, following a month-long loan spell that saw him commended for his impressive performances, including a try scoring display against Toronto Wolfpack.

Danny Ward said: “We have all been really impressed with Jordan since his arrival at London Broncos. He’s a good kid with an attitude to match. He’s has fitted in well with the group and his performances have been getting better every week.”

Speaking to the Vikings Media Team following his return, Johnstone said that he had welcomed the opportunity that the loan spell provided.

“It was good and a bit different! It was really positive to get a lot of minutes under my belt. At the start of the year everyone was fit and available here, so I wanted to take the opportunity to build match sharpness at the Broncos.

I was probably a bit unlucky because Aaron and Lloyd ended up missing the Castleford game after I’d signed the deal, but everything happens for a reason. Overall the experience of going out there was really positive and one that I’m grateful for.”

At the age of 21, Johnstone believes that his time in the capital provided a valuable life experience, as well as minutes on the pitch.

“Going into a new environment was a bit difference, but I got to know all the lads and have made some mates there. Experiences like this will stand me in good stead going forward.”

“Joining a new team, with a lot of new calls and shapes and structures has its challenges. I just tried to concentrate on what I can do well and focus on that in my play. I have more in me but I overall I’m pretty happy with my performances.”

With a strong start to the 2018 season, Johnstone has been called up into the 19-man squad for Friday’s upcoming clash against Huddersfield Giants (Halton Stadium, 8.00pm). He says that he is relishing the chance for first-team action.

“I’m back here now, so I’m pushing for a place in the team against Huddersfield. It’s great to be back in Widnes and I’m really looking forward to stepping out in front of the supporters soon.”
