Gerrard Ready For Return

Gerrard Ready For Return

2nd March 2018

Alex Gerrard is in contention to make his return to the first team tonight and is relishing the opportunity to get back to Super League action, after recovering from an injury.

“I’m looking forward to getting back out on the field. I’ve not played now since the final game of last season, so I’ve been itching to get back out there. The lads have been playing well, so it’ll be great to get back to action and join them”, he says.

Gerrard returns to the Vikings at a time when the Vikings have real depth in the forward ranks, with Wellington and Stanton Albert joining a set of props that includes Jay and Ted Chapelhow, Greg Burke, Gil Dudson, Hep Cahill and Owen Farnworth. Alex says that this strength in depth helps to push the players and the squad as a whole forward.

“Competition for places is always good. It makes everyone play better and train harder. It puts pressure on you to earn and keep your place. The team has a good set of forwards and that’s only positive.”

The Vikings travel to local rivals Wigan Warriors tonight after a comprehensive victory over Leeds Rhinos. Alex says that the team will be heading to the DW Stadium with every belief that they will secure the two points.

“The lads are confident. They’ve been playing well and have been unlucky to not get the points in a couple of games. You only need to look at the Leeds Rhinos result to see what this team is capable of achieving. Taking on Wigan is a massive challenge, but it’s one that we are looking forward to.”

With Britain whipped by the Siberian winds this week and sports events being cancelled across the country, the Vikings received welcome news this morning that tonight’s fixture will be taking place. The dedicated backing of the Vikings Stronghold Members and supporters, who loyally cheer on their team come rain, snow or shine, means a lot to Alex and the team.

“We definitely appreciate it. Our fans are massive for us and it’s great when they travel in numbers. Obviously, we appreciate everyone who comes down to back us in conditions like these. That type of support is brilliant and all of us are grateful for it.”

Be there to back the boys!
