Charly Runciman was an ever present for the Vikings in 2018, making 31 appearances and scoring seven tries as the Vikings secured their Super League status for 2018. Therefore, James Messenger from the Vikings media team caught up with the centre, and says that he wants the Vikings to be looking further up the table in 2018 after a solid pre-season for Denis Betts' side.

The Vikings took part in the Super 8s, The Qualifiers in 2017, securing their place in the 2018 competition with a spectacular 12-10 victory over Catalans Dragons at the Stade Gilbert Brutus in September.

Nevertheless, Runciman insists that the club will kick on this season, and should be looking up rather than peering over their shoulders.

"You never aim to lose and we always want to finish as high as we can," he said.

"We want to win every week, and we want to push for the top. That’s what I play footy for - I don’t play to make the eight or avoid relegation.”

Runciman also says that he has been impressed by the quality of the players who have arrived at the Club during the off-season, including Krisnan Inu, who is in line to make his Vikings debut against former team Catalans Dragons next weekend.

Nevertheless, Charly believes that the integration of many younger players could hold the key to more Vikings success during the upcoming campaign.

“Krisnan has really settled in quickly. He’s been around the game for a long time so he knows how things work and he’s come in with a really professional attitude," he said.

“We’ve got a lot of players now; that’s important because everyone is competing in training, so if we’re not performing we’ve got people who can take your spot.”

Runciman was the Vikings' only ever present in the 2017 season, and provided solidity to the Club's left edge throughout the season..

Despite his impressive showing, the Australian hopes that he can show more of what he can offer to fans at the Halton Stadium this year, in order to help his side reach their potential.

“I’d like to be a bit more consistent this year. I want to try my best to be a good team-mate, and hopefully get over the line a few more times as well,” he said.

“We’ve had a really good pre-season and everyone’s buzzing so it’ll be nice if we could be the dark horses this year.”
