Widnes Vikings will be holding an open trial evening on Monday 22nd January at the Halton Stadium to aid recruitment for the Club’s recently formed Women’s Super League team.

The Vikings, in partnership with the Vikings Sports Foundation, are spearheading plans to encourage increased engagement in the game, by delivering innovative programmes that support girls as young as seven to participate in the sport, starting with putting together a side to compete in the Women's Super League.

The open-age team will be trained by coaches from the Vikings’ award-winning community team, with players having the exciting opportunity to both play and train at Halton Stadium. Whilst the team will be led by the Vikings Sports Foundation, players will benefit from regular access to the Vikings performance gym and first team coaches and conditioners.

The trial evening will take place on Monday 22nd January between 6:00pm-7:00pm, with registration starting from 5:30pm onwards. The Vikings are looking for players aged 16+, and the coaching staff have asked all attendees to bring boots along with them to the session.

Andy Sheridan, Head Coach, says: “We are looking forward to welcoming everybody on Monday evening.”

“Next week allows us the opportunity for us to have a look at all those who are attending and run them through condition-based games with a view to making them a part of our team.

“If you are 16 and above and want to be part of history by playing for the Club’s first ever Women’s team, then come along and get involved.”
