Joe Mellor and Stef Marsh spoke to BBC Radio Merseyside’s Try Time to share their excitement at tonight’s Festive Derby (Halton Stadium, 8.00pm kick off).

“It’s been a tough pre-season, so as the season gets closer we’re really looking forward to playing again. We’re all itching to get out there”, said Mellor.

The Co-Captain says that tonight’s game will be anything but a friendly, with both teams wanting to claim bragging rights over their rivals.

“It’s a friendly, but as soon as you are on the field it is a proper game. You put everything into it that you have got, and you don’t hold back. We’re all going to go out there and give it our all.”

Marsh, the hero of the Vikings last fixture against Catalans Dragons, shares Mellor’s anticipation for the big game.

“We’ve had a good few weeks in training and are now ready to play. As soon as you cross the line to play, you want to win and this game is no different. I can’t wait.”

The pair also shared with interviewer, Allan Rooney, their belief that the Vikings will are building for a stronger 2018.

“We’ve made some good signings and are looking forward to them showing what they can do. We’ll be looking for a great start going into the season, and to kick off from there”, said Marsh.

Vikings supporters can look forward to seeing 2018 signing, Sam Wilde, take to the field tonight against his former club, Warrington Wolves. With Wilde set to be joined in recent weeks by Krisnan Inu and PNG internationals, Kato Ottio and Wellington Albert, Mellor believes that the Vikings will have real power in their side for 2018.

“Inu is one of those players you can give the ball to and he can make something happen on his own. We’ve played against him a few times and he’s a big lad, and a real handful. The PNG boys are 6 six foot 4, and really strong; we’re looking forward to them coming over and are hoping they can make a big impact. I’m really looking forward to lining up with them all.”
