Betts Delight At Chamberlain Call-Up

10th October 2017

Widnes Vikings Head Coach, Denis Betts, shared his delight at Ed Chamberlain’s call up to Ireland’s 2017 Rugby League World Cup squad.

Chamberlain, 21, secured his first international call up when he was named for Ireland’s 24-man squad for the tournament, which takes place in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Denis Betts says: “I’m delighted to hear that Ed has been called up to represent Ireland at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. His form in the second-half of last season was impressive, so it is pleasing to see that his performances have been recognised with this selection.

I’m sure that Ed will gain great experience from being part of the tournament, which will only serve to support his development as a player and enhance his contribution to Widnes Vikings going forward. On behalf of everyone at the Club, I’d like to congratulate him on this achievement.”

Speaking recently to the Vikings Media Team, Ed said: “This call up is huge for me. I haven’t played as much as I hoped this season, so I can’t wait to get over there and get back on the field again.

At international level, playing against some great players, as well as being in a different country, you have to be at your best in every game. It will be a big challenge and I’m really looking forward to it.”
