Brand Called Into England Academy Squad

9th October 2017

Widnes Vikings Academy star, Keanan Brand, has been called up into the England Academy squad for the two tests against France this week.

Brand will join up with fellow Vikings Academy stars, Danny Walker and Owen Farnworth, in Lee Briers’ and Matty Peet’s England squad.

The talented centre, 18, has been with the Vikings through every stage of its development pathway - joining at 14, as a scholar. Having played in the 2017 friendly against Warrington Wolves and featured in first team squads, Keanan has his eyes firmly set on making his senior debut and experiencing first team action in 2018.

Keanan’s impressive year for the Vikings’ U19 side was rewarded at the Academy End of Season Dinner, when he collected the Club’s Players’ Player of the Year award.

“This call up has come on the back of a really good year for myself,” he said.

“I think that I’ve really stepped up this year for the Academy, so it’s fantastic to be recognised for that with this call up.

“It is a huge honour to play for your country at any level.  I am looking forward to putting on an England shirt when we take on a tough France team this week.”

England take on France Under-18s on Monday, October 9 (6.00pm) at Stade de la Mediterrannee, Le Barcares. The final Test will be a curtain-raiser to France v Jamaica on Friday, October 13 (5.00pm) at the home of Catalans Dragons, Stade Gilbert Brutus in Perpignan.

Keanan is proudly sponsored by Skin Deep Aesthetics.
