Ed Chamberlain discussed the excitement in the Vikings camp for tomorrow’s pivotal game against Catalans Dragons, ahead of the team flying out to France today.

“There’s a real buzz in the team”, said Chamberlain.

“Everyone is feeling confident. We’ve just finished a good training session on the field and everyone was looking sharp. We’re excited to go out there and get the win.”

“The team have trained really well throughout the week. There’s no anxiety, we’re just looking forward to it.”

The talented outside back says that the Vikings have drawn confidence and lessons from Saturday’s 38-16 victory over London Broncos.

“We’ve taken some things from the London game. We know need to make sure that we respect the ball. Our completion rate was good, but in the second half it dropped off a bit. If we can keep standards high across both halves, we should do well.”

Chamberlain believes that the Vikings posed an impressive offensive threat against London Broncos and can carry that momentum into the weekend’s crunch tie.

“We were really good in attack, there was a huge improvement from our performance against Hull KR. Joey (Mellor) and Gilly (Tom Gilmore) were really good, and Danny Craven did really well at the back too. I’m sure that if we can keep our players on the pitch we can get the right result.”

Chamberlain has impressed in his return to the Vikings, including playing a hand in possibly the Club’s try of the season. As the halftime hooter blew, Ed delivered an impressive offload that saw the Vikings rapidly move the ball across the field to send Charly Runciman over for a try. Ed was quick to praise his teammates for making this magic happen.

“It was one of them, where you just throw it about! I just tried to get it to Stef (Marsh) as soon as possible. It was a good team try; I threw one pass and was happy to see what it produced.”

Widnes Vikings take on Catalans Dragons on Saturday 22nd September, 5.15pm. Read the match preview here.
