Widnes Vikings hooker Lloyd White has been ruled out of the rest of the Club's season as well as the upcoming World Cup with Wales.

The 28-year-old injured his hamstring last weekend while kicking a goal during the Super 8s Qualifiers clash with London Broncos and will miss the game against Catalans Dragons.

White, who has won 15 caps for Wales in his career to date, won’t be able to recover in time for the tournament.

On the loss of White, Wales head coach John Kear said: “Everybody wants the opportunity to play in a World Cup but, unfortunately for Lloyd, he has picked up a hamstring injury.

“He’s picked up the injury kicking for goal, which is very unusual, so it’s unfortunate for him that it’s happened.

Lloyd White said: “I’m obviously disappointed, but you’ve got to take these things on the chin. Anything can happen in sport," he said.

“Missing out will give me a chance to get a full pre-season under my belt and catch up on some university work that I’ve missed, so it’s not the end of the world.

“I’ll be looking to play for Wales again as soon as the opportunity arises.

“I wish all the boys well on their trip and hope they do as well as I know they can.”
