Widnes Vikings winger Corey Thompson was happy with the performance and victory against Leigh Centurions, a game in which he highlighted as a must-win fixture.

The Vikings ran out 24-8 victors on Sunday afternoon, with tries from Lloyd White, Alex Gerrard and Thompson himself helping Denis Betts' side record their third straight victory.

The Vikings media team caught up with the flying winger, who filled in at fullback due to injuries to Rhys Hanbury and Danny Craven, to ask him about that victory.

On the Leigh victory - "It’s a massive effort from the boys, especially with Rhys and Danny Craven going down in the middle of the game. We had to dig deep, and Leigh came back at the end but we responded with a try and a couple of penalty goals. It was good to get the win."

On moving to full back and scoring - "I had to fill in for Danny, who was filling in for Rhys, so it was good (to score). It was a bit of a struggle, I hadn’t played full back for a while but it was good to get over and extend the lead."

On the mood in the camp following the win - "It’s awesome. This was a big game for us and we knew what it meant and had to get the two points. It’s not over yet and Hull KR aren’t going to be any easier, so we have got to prepare well and get a big win there."

On the travelling support - "It was good, and we need that for the next three games. The fans are massive when they’re up, chanting and cheering. It’s a big lift for the boys and it gives us energy."
