Chapelhow & Johnstone preview game

29th August 2017

Widnes Vikings stars James Chapelhow and Jordan Johnstone say that confidence is flying high in the Vikings squad, ahead of Sunday’s huge fixture against Leigh Centurions.

Prop Forward, Chapelhow, believes the Vikings can draw on their experiences of back-to-back victories over Leigh this season, and can devise a winning game-plan.

He says, “Leigh are a big pack. Both times we’ve played them, home and away, they’ve been very physical. We put in a dominant performance at home, which was good, and the away game was a bit tighter. I feel like we’ve upped our game against them twice this year and we need to do the same again.

“They’re going to bring a big strong pack and will try and go through the middle of us. Our aim is to front up in the middle, weather the storm in the first 15-20 minutes, and after that – once we’ve met them – we can go on and hopefully come out with the win.”

Hooker, Jordan Johnstone, says that following comprehensive victories over Featherstone Rovers and Halifax RLFC, the Vikings are ready for Sunday’s test.

“The team is full of confidence.  We need to concentrate on ourselves, rather than looking at the other team. There’s a lot of confidence floating about the club at the moment, so hopefully we can go into the game with that attitude and leave with the result.”
