Secure your place at our upcoming Wembley Heroes event, with the event just less than a week away!

A number of ex-Widnes legends have confirmed their attendance for this event, wanting to look back at some of the Club's finer days, and it should be a brilliant night for any Widnes supporter.

 

The Event

On Wednesday 23rd August, Widnes Vikings will be hosting a special celebration event at the Halton Stadium, marking the Club's 1981 and 1984 Challenge Cup triumphs (7.00pm start).

The event, which takes place in the week leading up to the 2017 Challenge Cup final, will reunite the heroes of two of Widnes' greatest days. Expect to see some of Widnes' biggest ever names and to hear fascinating tales from the glory days of The Chemics.

 

Confirmed Guests

Mike O’Neill - Made over 400 appearances for Widnes during a 13-year spell that started in 1977. During his time with the Club, Mike has two Championship titles, six Premiership final wins, four Challenge Cup appearances and three John Player Final appearances. The front row was renowned as a strong and uncompromising prop forward. His performances for the Chemics gave Mike the opportunity to represent Great Britain four times, as well as touring Australia and New Zealand in 1984. 

Steve O’Neill - Started his career with Wigan Warriors in 1976, before making a move to Widnes in 1981. Steve would make over 200 appearances for the Club, scoring 12 tries playing as either a prop, like his brother, or in the second row. Steve has Challenge Cup final experience with the Vikings, making the 1984 side that overcame Wigan, scoring a drop-goal in a 19-6 victory. Steve also played for Wigan, Swinton and Salford during his career, and made an appearance for England in 1981 during his time at Central Park. 

Andy Gregory - Played for Widnes between 1980 and 1984 during the 'Cup Kings' era for the Club. With 43 tries in 141 appearances for the Chemics, as well as two Challenge Cup victories for the Vikings in 1981 and 1984, Andy is regarded as one of Widnes' greatest ever half backs. His form for the Chemics was rewarded with his international debut during his time at Naughton Park, and would go on to make 26 caps for Great Britain. 

Glyn Shaw - Glyn made 144 appearances for Widnes, scoring 18 tries. The strong, uncompromising forward played in both the 1979 Challenge Cup and the 1981 Challenge Cup triumphs. The dual-code star signed from Neath RFC and also gained 12 caps for Wales Rugby Union.
