Widnes Vikings Co-Captain, Chris Houston, believes the team can build on their positive result against Halifax RLFC, ahead of Sunday’s game against Featherstone Rovers.

The Vikings ran out 36-12 winners at the MBI Shay Stadium to record their first two points of the Super 8s campaign. After the victory, the back rower shared his satisfaction with the way in which the side approached Sunday’s game.

“I think it was a good performance,” he said.

“It was a little bit of going into the unknown, coming up against a team we haven’t played much against before. We knew we had to just focus on ourselves and I thought we controlled the game pretty well.”

The Vikings ran in seven tries on Sunday afternoon, and Houston believes the scoreline was just rewards for their hard work and execution of their game plan.

“We were patient with the ball and we completed well, and then got some nice tries on the end of it. That’s the reward that you get.”

The victory was the Club’s first of their Qualifiers campaign, and Chris believes it will create momentum for the fixtures ahead.

“Wins like this build confidence and you’ve got to enjoy them,” he said. “Hopefully now, we can carry that form into the next few games.”

Houston reserved special thanks to the Vikings supporters, and shared his anticipation for Sunday’s home fixture against Featherstone Rovers.

“Our fans travelled well, and we owe them some good performances at home. We know that we are going to have to be on our game when we face Featherstone. We’re looking forward to building some confidence and form in the next few weeks.”
