Thompson pleased with Halifax performance

13th August 2017

Widnes Vikings winger, Corey Thompson, believes the Vikings can be proud of their 36-12 victory over Halifax RLFC. The Australian delivered an outstanding performance in the game, scoring two second-half tries.

“I was pleased with the performance, it was good”, he said at the final whistle.

“We played really well in the first half and in the start of the second half too. Unfortunately, we fell off a little bit in parts of the second half, which was disappointing - we know we need to work on that, especially against the Super League teams.”

Thompson reserved praise for the Vikings opponents, who offered a competitive and spirited performance.

“Full credit to Halifax, they didn’t go away. It’s hard to play against a team that throws it about a lot and are creative. Overall, it was a good win for us.”

The Vikings team were cheered on throughout by their loyal supporters, and Thompson was keen to thank them for boost they gave the players.

“We’ve got to say thanks to the supporters, they were outstanding. We’re grateful for them travelling and really getting behind us.”

Tickets are on sale for the Vikings upcoming home fixture against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday 20th August (3pm kick off). Be there to cheer on the boys at this vital stage of the season!
