Leeds Rhinos U19s     26     v    Widnes Vikings  U19s     14

(Stanningley SARLC)

After a keenly contested first 40 minutes, the young Vikings were outplayed in the second half as Leeds consolidated their fourth-place position.

The home side were soon on the scoreboard when a high kick, on the last tackle, was caught by second rower Alex Sutcliffe who went over close to the posts.  Tom Schofield converted and Leeds held a six-point advantage.  Widnes then found themselves down to 12 men as Brad Walker was sin binned but they rose to the challenge and Keanan Brand chipped ahead to regather his kick and score.  Lloyd Roby levelled the scores with the conversion.

Widnes then took a grip on the game, but despite having a lot of possession on the Leeds line they couldn't break down a resolute defence. An entertaining first half ended at six points apiece.

Widnes started the second half brightly and they took the lead when Keanan Brand created a try for Jake Knox, who finished spectacularly in the corner.  Leeds soon responded with a fine individual effort from hooker Harvey Whiteley and Schofield's conversion put them in a 12-10 lead.  With Lloyd Roby having to leave the field and with Owen Farnworth unable to return since the first half, Widnes were down to 15 fit players and Leeds began to take control.

Their third try soon followed as good passing put Kiedan Hartley over and after 62 minutes it was 20-10, as Reece Chapman-Smith scored wide out.  Widnes tried to rally and a rare attack saw Owen Buckley go close. However, Leeds wrapped up the game when Whiteley brushed off attempted tackles for his second try which Schofield converted.

Widnes did have the final say as a lovely long pass from Brad Walker found Buckley, but this was merely a consolation try as the home side ran out deserved winners.
