Nicholls and O'Neill Confirmed

13th July 2017

Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that George Nicholls and Dennis O'Neill are the latest names to the 'Lunch with Legends' event.

On Friday 21st July, the Vikings will be bringing together past and present stars for a unique celebration lunch hosted by famed Rugby League compere, Pete Emmett. George Nicholls and Dennis O'Neill will be joined by Jim Mills, Ray Dutton, Reg Bowden, Stuart Wright and Mal Apsey, as well as current first-team stars Joe Mellor and Tom Gilmore.

Prop forward George Nicholls, joined his local town team, Widnes, in 1966. Over the space of seven years, Nicholls made over 200 appearances for the Club, scoring an impressive 38 tries from the front row.

His performances for the Chemics earned Nicholls international recognition, with 29 caps for Great Britain, including being part of the squad that won the 1972 Rugby League World Cup.

George would also have spells with Cardiff City, Salford and more famously with St Helens during his illustrious career.

Dennis O’Neill currently sits 10th on Widnes’ all-time try scoring list with 112 tries during a 13-year spell with the Chemics. With over 270 appearances for the Club, the stand-off was a hugely popular figure at Naughton Park in the 1960s and 70s.

Famously, the pair combined for a memorable try against Australia for Great Britain, as a Nicholls break down the middle was finished by O’Neill in a 27-21 victory.

Tickets are priced at just £25 or £20 for Stronghold Members. Further legends will be announced for the event in the coming weeks. The event will run from 12.30pm (1pm start) until 4.15pm and includes a two course lunch.
