Vikings Announce Chase & Walker Deals

Widnes Vikings are proud to announce two new deals that show its ambition at every level, with the permanent signing of Rangi Chase on a two year deal and the long-term retention of Danny Walker on a Club record four year contract.

Former Man of Steel and England international, Chase, joined the Vikings on loan in May 2017 from Castleford Tigers and has impressed in his five appearances for the Club. Chase has been instrumental in the Club's recent upturn in form, earning him a new permanent deal that will see him entertain at the Halton Stadium in the seasons ahead.

Danny Walker is one of the most exciting and talked about young players in the Betfred Super League. The eighteen year old hooker is a product of Widnes Vikings' Academy system, which is rated as 'Outstanding' by the RFL.

Walker joined the Vikings at fourteen and has represented the Club at every level of its youth pathway. He has also represented England at all youth levels. He made his Betfred Super League debut in March 2017 and has gone on to play six games this season. His four year deal is the longest contract the Vikings has ever offered to any player since the Club's return to Super League.

Denis Betts commented: "Both of these deals represent a real statement of intent by the Vikings, with two outstanding talents committing their futures to the Club."

The Vikings Head Coach shared his delight at the permanent deal for Chase, saying:

"Rangi has made a big impact since his arrival, contributing well both on and off the field. He has exceptional abilities and, as an international standard half-back, adds real quality to the team. We have seen in recent results the benefits of his skill and experience on the field. To permanently secure a player of his abilities is a sign of the Club's ambition."

Rangi Chase added: "I have loved my time with the Vikings, since day one. I've been welcomed here with open arms by the Club, my team mates and the Members. My experience here has been overwhelming, so it was an easy decision to sign this permanent deal. I'm looking forward to working with Denis and my teammates over the coming years, to help it grow and enjoy success."

Denis Betts heaped praise on young hooker, Danny Walker, saying:

"Danny is one of the most promising young players in the Super League. His commitment to a four year contract shows his belief in what we are building at the Vikings. We believe that Danny will be a big part of our future and I am pleased that he shares our ambitions by committing to this contract."

Danny Walker shared his excitement at his deal, saying:

"I am delighted to have signed this contract, securing my future with the Vikings for the next four years.

"It is important to me that I stay loyal to this Club and the people who have helped me get so far. I'm excited by what is being built at Widnes Vikings and the potential we have for the future. I'm now looking to claim my first team place and to help the Vikings achieve success in the seasons ahead.

"I'd like to thank my family, who have encouraged and supported me throughout my journey in Rugby League . I'd also to thank the Vikings coaching team, including Phil Finney, Brett Hodgson and Denis Betts, who have been fantastic in supporting my development as a player."
