Widnes Vikings produced a brilliant second half comeback to comeback from 12-0 down to beat Huddersfield Giants at the Halton Stadium.

In an evenly contested opening half, both sides would go set for set, but it would be the away side that would took the ascendency and grab the first points of the game.

On the 20 minute mark, and after getting downfield after good yards, stand off Oliver Russell would dummy and create a gap for himself to easily get through untouched to open the scoring at the Halton Stadium. Half back partner Izaac Farrell converted.

Vikings half back Joe Lyons would also go close, but knocked the ball on in the effort of trying to get the ball down on the tryline.

The game would remain 6-0 until the last few minutes of the half as prop forward Jon Luke Kirby managed to break the tackles off 2/3 Vikings defenders to barge over, after good field position from a penalty put them into position. Farrell again converted from the touchline to make it 12-0 at the break.

Brett Hodgson’s words at half-time must have worked wonders as the Vikings came out brilliantly at the start of the second half and would score from Danny King. On the back of two penalties that put the Vikings in field position, King collected a Roby offload close to the line to get over. Roby converted the try to reduce the deficit to six points.

Just four minutes later, and the Vikings would level the scores through Jayden Hatton. On the back of a Huddersfield error, the Vikings were again into attacking position and as the shifted the ball left out to Roby, the full back was able throw a great cut-out pass to put Hatton into space to score. Lloyd Roby superbly converted the try from the touchline.

The Vikings would take the lead for the first time in the game as Jayden Hatton grabbed his second try of the night. Chris Wilson grubber kicked the ball through on the last, was able to get to the ball first before Tyllar Hatton and offload out to Buckley to find Hatton who finished superbly in the corner. Lloyd Roby this time couldn’t add the extras from the same position as before, but the Vikings led 16-12.

The Vikings would then seal a second half comeback with a wonderful acrobatic finish from Jake Knox in the right hand corner. Brett Hodgson’s side shifted the ball well and quickly to their right edge on the last tackle and Davies found Knox who finished superbly in the corner. Lloyd Roby again added the extras from the touchline to make it 22-12 and seal the victory for the Vikings.
