Widnes Vikings have taken part in five Magic Weekend’s since their return to Super League in 2012, we take a look at all of our previous games in the setup.

2012 - Warrington Wolves 68-4 Widnes Vikings

The Vikings were given a rude awakening to the concept with a defeat against local rivals Warrington Wolves at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

Wolves winger Joel Monaghan crossed for five tries, Matty Blythe grabbed a hat-trick and Gareth O’Brien, who had been on loan at the Vikings in the same season, kicked 10 goals, to ease Warrington to victory.

2013 - Salford City Red 28-22 Widnes Vikings 

Widnes Vikings were denied their first point at Magic Weekend as Jordan James scored a late try to win the game for Salford.

A Joe Mellor hat trick and a late Kevin Brown try had got the Vikings back in the game and level at 22-22 at the Etihad Stadium. However, the Vikings were to be denied as Jordan James was able to stretch over and score to win the game and give Salford the two points at the bottom of the Super League table.

2014 - Widnes Vikings 30-24 Salford Red Devils 

Widnes Vikings were able to gain revenge from the 2013 encounter and claim a first ever win at the Magic Weekend event over the newly-named Salford Red Devils at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite losing Danny Craven in the first minute after a collision with Gareth Hock, the Vikings rallied and tries from Owens, Dean, White, Hanbury and brace from Paddy Flynn was enough to give the Vikings victory, although they had to face a set on their own line in the final minute to see the game out.

2015 - Salford Red Devils 16-38 Widnes Vikings

A Kevin Brown hat trick helped to hand Widnes Vikings their second win at the Magic Weekend event and their second consecutive victory over the Red Devils at the concept.

Brown’s trio of tries were complimented by scores from Danny Galea, Stefan Marsh and a brace from Patrick Ah Van, with Jack Owens flawless with the boot. Darrell Griffin was dismissed for a high shot on the stroke of half-time and the Vikings ran out comfortable winners at the opening game at St James’ Park in Newcastle.

2016 - Salford Red Devils 18-12 Widnes Vikings

Widnes Vikings were beaten at Magic Weekend for the first time since 2013 following a Salford comeback in the second half at St James’ Park.

Tries from Rhys Hanbury and Chris Bridge had put the Vikings ahead at the break but tries from Daniel Vidot (2) and Justin Carney was enough for the Red Devils to hold on, with the Vikings having a number of tries chalked off through the video referee.
