Vikings Support No Smoking Day

8th March 2017

Widnes Vikings are proud to be supporting National No Smoking Day. Working in partnership with Halton Borough Council, Widnes Vikings are encouraging the people of Halton to ‘stub it out’ and help to combat the biggest cause of preventable death in the UK.

Regular smokers are more at risk of many difference cancers, such as lung, stomach, pancreas and bladder cancer, as well as a higher chance of having heart of lung diseases like bronchitis and emphysema.

If you quit smoking today, your blood oxygen level and carbon monoxide levels are back to normal. Further to this, the risk of having a heart attack will have dropped dramatically within two weeks, and could potentially save you £2500.

Halton Borough Council offer a great service to help you stop smoking, and offers FREE face to face and phone support to help you find the best way to quit, and people are four times more likely to quit working with the Council rather than doing it alone.

Richard Munson, Community Integrated Director at Widnes Vikings, says: "We are proud to support a day that combats one of the most common reasons for death in the United Kingdom,"

"Halton Borough Council offer a brilliant service in helping people to quit and offer alternative options to tend to individual circumstances. With an over 50% success rate in helping people to quit, they have a proven track record and hopefully the Club giving their backing to this day will help a few more to quit."

Jordan Johnstone, first team player at Widnes Vikings, says: "As rugby league players, it's important to lead healthy lives so I'm pleased to see Widnes Vikings supporting an event such as this."
