Widnes Vikings forward Greg Burke has already stated his excitement at returning to his old club Wigan Warriors on Friday as the Vikings look to gain their first win of the season.

Key Quotes

On whether the intensity in training has stepped up - “It has stepped up to be fair. It’s always a big game when you play Wigan away, especially after their victory last week. It’s going to be a big game regardless and we need to get back on the horse and try to get that first win as quick as we can. You can tell with the training we’ve had this week that everyone is on board with that so hopefully we can kick on and hit the ground running.”

On what Wigan offer on Friday night - “I think they’re strong all across the park, and that’s the reason they won the Grand Final last year. They’ve got strike players everywhere, such as their wingers and George Williams, as well as having Tommy Leuluai back to free up George even more. Their forwards are going to try and batter you like they always do so as long as we turn up with the same attitude as them, then it’s set up for a really interesting game.”

On the importance of the Vikings away support - “It’s massive. I remember last year when we beat Wigan with only 11 men on the field for a period in the second half. To run to them at full-time, and there was quite a lot there that night, and to see them jumping around and such, it’s massive for the players and that’s what we need. We need their support.”
