Widnes Vikings star, Ted Chapelhow, has praised the 'Player' programme, which uses sport to promote the health and wellbeing of adults who have experienced mental health concerns.

Player takes place at the Select Security Stadium every Friday at 5pm. The programme gives participants the opportunity to enjoy fun and informal sports sessions with our specialist community team, training in the club's Performance Centre. Attendees also enjoy socialising together, with a well deserved coffee and chat after sessions. The programme promotes people building their support networks and enjoying special experiences.

Widnes Vikings player, Ted Chapelhow, came along to support Friday's session. He assisted Vikings Community Coach, Dan Scott, delivering drills and offering encouragement to participants.

The Vikings forward thoroughly enjoyed his time and believes the initiative should be encouraged.

Ted says, "I think Player is brilliant. Having the opportunity to train in our gym with the Vikings coaching team is a brilliant experience. I’ve loved every minute and hope it goes from strength to strength."

He adds, "As players, we're really proud of our work in the community. It's great that Widnes Vikings are leading the way with their mental health programmes."

The 'Player' programme is delivered in partnership with Halton Clinical Commisioning Group (CCG), Mind Halton and 5 Boroughs NHS Foundation Trust.

People can join the 'Player' programme by turning up on a Friday evening at Stadium Fitness before the session.
