Widnes Vikings hooker Lloyd White will be attending our Golden Generation session on Friday 14th January.

In August 2015, Widnes Vikings in partnership with Halton Clinical Commissioning Group established the ‘Golden Generation’ project, with the aim being to use the heritage of the Vikings to tackle loneliness and isolation in older people.

A report by Independent Age and the ILC UK stated that loneliness and isolation has become a ‘serious issue’ nationwide, with a significant proportion of the older generation relying on television for their only source of company. Through the partnership with local health authorities, it was critical that the Vikings opened its doors for its older generation of fans to come together through a shared interest.

The ‘Golden Generation’ group meet every Friday from 2.30pm at the Halton Stadium. Each session starts with a walk around the I-Pitch (up to a mile) before having refreshments in the stadium and enjoying the programme's main event for the week.

The session has had many people connected with Widnes Vikings attending, including Head of Youth Phil Finney, assistant head coach Brett Hodgson and ex-Widnes and St Helens player John Stankevitch, and Lloyd will be the latest name to the list.

If you are aged over 55 and want to come along and listen to Lloyd White, come down for 2:30pm at the Select Security Stadium tomorrow.
