Rugby League Legend and current Widnes Vikings Assistant Coach Mick Cassidy has donated his 2006 Grand Final shirt to Community Integrated Care’s Memory Box programme.

Cassidy, has offered to donate his playing shirt to support the reminiscence programme, which has seen supporters across the country give up treasured memories to support such a worthy cause

Earlier in the season, Community Integrated Care and Widnes Vikings did a ‘call-to-arms’ to supporters to donate memorabilia, in order to support reminiscence sessions and create feature areas in care homes across Halton.

Speaking of his donation, Mick said “I was having a clear out of my loft and I came across this shirt," he said.

"In the office at the club I had seen the posters talking about it and thought I could also support with a little bit of history so it was a perfect fit really."

John Hughes, Head of Communications and Marketing at Community Integrated Care, said:

"When we launched the Widnes Vikings memory box campaign, we couldn't have imagined how successful it would be," he said.

"The fans of the club have been incredibly generous, giving our charity fantastic items that bring to life the club's history. What has impressed us most is how many fans have given us items of real sentimental value - this is certainly the case with Mick's donation of such a prized possession. His gift typifies our experiences with the club and fans this year, who have really gone above and beyond to make a difference."

He adds, "We'd like to thank Mick and everyone who has shown us their support. These items will be put to great use in our care homes and in our monthly Chemics Cafe dementia support event, helping people connect with their Vikings memories."

Mick also has been to support other clubs projects and this week joined the ‘Golden Generation’ session, to talk about his Rugby League career and have a Q & A with loyal supporters. Due to the group being trained as dementia friends and supporting the memories project, Mick has presented the shirt to the group to hand to Community Integrated Care.
