Story in brief:
The Awesome Foursome hit the ground running!
Vikings Head Coach Denis Betts, Assistant Coaches Mick Cassidy and Dave Banks and Player Welfare Officer Tim Holmes will be among the 55,000 runners taking part in this year's Bupa Great North Run on Sunday 16th September.
The Bupa Great North Run is the second largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually each September. Participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields.
The 13.1 mile course was devised by former Olympic 10,000m Bronze Medalist and BBC Sport commentator Brendan Foster and first staged on 28 June 1981, when 12,000 runners participated. By 2011, the number of participants had risen to 54,000.
For the first year it was advertised as a local fun run; nearly thirty years on it has become one of the biggest running events in the world, and the biggest in the UK. Only the London Marathon comes close to attracting similar numbers of athletes each year.
Commenting on their forthcoming challenge, Tim Holmes said; "We are attempting to raise as much money as possible for Joining Jack.
"It is a charity that the entire Super League family are supporting and we are only too pleased to do our bit to help this fantastic cause.
"We're well aware that it's going to be a hard slog but well worth the pain in the end.
"The question is; are any of us going to be able to keep up with ‘Banksy' whose trademark high-leg kick style, would have even Mo Farah shaking in his spikes!"
