Betts reflects on 2012 season

With the curtain having now come down on the Vikings' 2012 Stobart Super League season, Head Coach Denis Betts admits to feeling enthused by many aspects of the clubs first season back in rugby league's elite competition; "Well, the Super League table doesn't lie and we are where we are, but I think there have been some massive leaps forward and being conservative about it, we know that we have come a long way as a group.

"We weren't able to pick our best side week in week out, our halfback partnerships changed continuously through the year, and the spine of our team was different on lots of occasions but we still managed to find a way of playing and we stuck to what we set out to do.

"I'm certainly not happy with us finishing bottom and the players aren't happy with the situation either because they worked really hard all year. However, I am really pleased with the effort and the endeavour that we put in and the improvements we made.

"We started the year realising it was year zero and now it has been completed, we will move on to year one with much stronger foundations in place and a far greater understanding of what is in front of us and how to adapt to it.

"For us it's about what we do over a three-year period, not one season. I want a club and a team that the fans are proud of and I'm confident we are making the necessary strides to achieve that goal. We know that we are going to get better and that has always been the case!"
