Join us in supporting our Heroes Story in brief:

Join us in supporting our Heroes

Widnes Vikings today announce their Stobart Super League Round 19 clash with Castleford Tigers at the Stobart Stadium on Monday 2 July (KO - 8.00pm), will form part of a continued celebration of Armed Forces Day which takes place a few days earlier.

This year's Armed Forces Day national event is being held in Plymouth but across the country there are many other fund-raising activities where people are welcomed to show their support for our Armed Forces. In association with 1 Mercian Regiment (Cheshire), the Vikings are only too happy to play their part.

Help for Heroes raises money to aid members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country. Along similar lines, the Vikings are now asking our members and supporters to join us by "doing their bit" to show these extraordinary young men and women they are truly cared for and appreciated.

Speaking about the forthcoming event, 1 Mercian Regiment's Unit Welfare Officer, Captain John Elms, said; "The camaraderie and team spirit in rugby league mirrors that of the Armed Forces and we are delighted to join forces with Widnes Vikings and are truly grateful for their assistance.

"We would also like to thank the clubs army of supporters in advance, for helping us to raise much-needed funds for the worthy soldiers charities. Please be assured, for every single penny donated, 100% will go directly to helping the wounded Servicemen and women and support their rehabilitation both physically and mentally."

Widnes Vikings are promoting an exclusive offer to serving members of the Armed Forces via a ticket deal which allows serving force members entry to the game for just £5, upon production of a valid HM Forces ID card.

Widnes Vikings' Marketing Director, Brian O'Connor added, "Widnes Vikings are proud to lend their assistance to such an important cause.

"These soldiers work tirelessly both in this country and overseas and it is nice to be able to offer this reduced rate, as a very small thank you from the club."

In the build-up to what promises to be a full-blooded affair between the Vikings and the Tigers on the i-pitch, upon arrival at the Stobart Stadium the crowd will be able to visit the on-site Help for Heroes promotional vehicle and trailer and learn more about the continued hard work carried out by the Charity. There will also be an opportunity to get up-close and personal with a selection of deactivated weapons and meet and greet a handful of serving soldiers in full uniform.

Once inside, an especially choreographed military-themed performance from ‘The Viking Vixens' cheerleaders will form part of the match day package, with more themed entertainment announced in due course.
